2 weeks old!

Lyla is 2 weeks old today. We've had a relatively uneventful week at home. She is quite the sleepy little thing, and unlike Timothy, she actually lets me put her down from time to time. It's very odd... ;)

Probably one of the biggest events this week was Timothy getting to hold his sister. He was so excited and he did a great job!

She also got to wear her first cute, girly outfit when we went to Aunt Susan's house to celebrate Grandpa Jay's birthday on Sunday.

And we also had her newborn photo shoot with our friend and photographer Rebecca Hickey, which so far has yielded some wonderful results. I can't wait to see the rest of the photos.

First Bath!

Lyla had her first bath at home one day shy of two weeks old. She did very well, but I'm not sure if she loves the water quite as much as her big brother does.

Lyla Mae

Little Lyla has finally graced us with her presence (okay, she's been here for 11 days now...) and we couldn't be happier! She was born via emergency cesarean on July 6, 2010, at 8:22am. She is 19" long and weighed 7lbs 0.7ozs at birth. She looks so much like Timothy (only with darker hair and eyes) and she is absolutely beautiful! She is a very alert, calm and content little baby.

Timothy is doing pretty well with the adjustment - better than we expected! - and he loves his "sistuh" very much. He does not miss an opportunity to kiss her of "give her a nice gentle touch" and he tells anyone and everyone that she is "our baby" or "mommy's baby" and "not your baby!" I love that he's already so protective (and possessive!) of her!

And I just had to share this song:

Work Time

Believe it or not, Timothy came up with that all by himself! Funny little man! :)

Some cute photos from the last couple of months

First bubble bath:

Napping in the carseat:

Off to Grandma's:

"Time go nigh-night, papa!" (Yes, that's the kitchen floor!):

Chillin' with a before-bed snack:

My sweet boys (what you can't see is that Billy's mouth was open exactly the same way, hehe!):

Toddler frustrations:

That video just cracks me up - he has such a good vocabulary that sometimes I forget he's only 2. Then we have a moment like this, and it all comes back. ;)

There me are!!

So, one of Timothy's favorite games these days is a sort of cross between peek-a-boo and hide and seek. He loves hiding under the covers of the beds (preferably with papa), or under a blanket or cushion on the couch, and thinks it's hilarious when we say, "Where's Timothy? Where did he go?". He will pop out and say, "There me are!!" which we think evolved from us saying "there you are!" when playing peek-a-boo. Heehee!

28 months and 40 weeks

Timothy is 28 months old today, and I'm 40 weeks pregnant! Below is a photo that Billy took of my belly last night and a couple of shots of the soon-to-be big brother taken about a month ago at our friend Barb's house.

I'm not sure how much Timothy understands about the impending arrival of his little sister, but he talks about "sister in mommy's belly" and he recently told me that he wants her to come out so they can play ball. I'm sure it'll be an adjustment for all of us, having a new little one in the house, but I have a feeling it's going to go well.

In Timothy news, he's an interesting and funny little person these days. He has his "typical 2-year-old" moments from time to time (like at Trader Joe's on Tuesday... don't ask!), but for the most part he is very fun to be around. He speaks in long, complex sentences, and his vocabulary doesn't cease to amaze me.

Currently, he's very interested in emotions, and always seems to be assessing whether we are happy or sad. He will do something and then ask, "this makes mommy happy?" or if he does something not so nice (like hitting) he will say, "this makes mommy sad" and then "I give you nice gentle touches, mommy. This makes mommy happy." And, of course, while I'd prefer that he not hit in the first place, it's nice to know that he's starting to understand the effect of his actions and tries to make amends. He's also finding certain things very funny, and he has this weird maniacal laugh that he does and then informs us what it is that he finds so funny. Sometimes we get it, sometimes we don't. ;)

As for my "still" being pregnant, did you know that only 5% of babies are born on their "due date"? Did you know that average human gestation is actually 41 weeks + 1 day for first time pregnancies and 40 weeks + 3 days for subsequent pregnancies? Did you know that anywhere from 37 to 42 weeks is considered full term, and you're not considered postdate until after 42 weeks? So, hang tight, people. This little girl doesn't have a calendar, and only she knows when her birthday will be!
